37° Nordost - Gladbeck grows together

22. May 2026

Our project 37° Nordost – Gladbeck grows together was awarded recognition in the Vision and Planning category of the BDLA Landscape Architecture Prize 2026. The strategic basis for this transformation is the relocation of the B 224 into a tunnel. Only this infrastructural intervention creates the space to eliminate the decades-long separation of the districts of Mitte, Butendorf and Ellinghorst.

Together with the planning group, we have developed a 31-hectare open space network on the resulting tunnel cover. The jury particularly praised the exemplary project structure: “The project shows how technical infrastructure projects can be consistently used as catalysts for climate-friendly urban development and social networking.
