The new main building of the Inselspital/University Hospital Bern is organized as a “city within the city”. At its heart, the new building forms the high point of the Inselspital, visible from afar in the city skyline, and follows the principle of “My city, my neighborhood, my street, my home” inside. With this consistent and approachable concept, the Anna-Seiler-Haus has firmly established itself in urban society after just one year in operation, as a new symbol of the Inselspital, as an exemplary hospital building and as an outstanding contribution to Bern’s building culture.

The Bernese Building Culture Award Foundation has been honoring private, public and institutional clients and authors for their exemplary, contemporary and interdisciplinary planning and works in the Canton of Bern since 1989. It strengthens the understanding of high-quality building culture and makes it visible and accessible to a broad public. The award discusses the quality of buildings and planning, strengthens the understanding of interdisciplinary work and thus promotes Bern’s building culture.
