FIRST OFFICE - 1991-1994 IN KÖLN-ZOLLSTOCK

The young graduates move into their first offices in the south-west of Cologne. The early stages of the firm are characterised by an intense and interdisciplinary cooperation between Germany and the Netherlands, which is still part of the office profile today.

INITIAL PROJECTS - 1994-2002 OFFICE IN COLOGNE'S RHEINAUHAFEN

Our most sustained projects include our successful bid and realisation of Holzhafen Hamburg in 1994 and our commissioning and implementation of the master plan for HafenCity Hamburg, a contract awarded to ASTOC following an international tender process in 1999.

Kees Christiaanse becomes our long-term advisor.

BRANCHING INTO TEACHING AND RESEARCH 1999

Markus Neppl becomes active in the field of teaching and research and assumes professorships, firstly at the University of Kaiserslautern and then from 2003 at the Karlsruhe University (today KIT) as Chair for Urban District Planning and Design. As a result, an additional project office is opened in Karlsruhe.
Since 2003 Oliver Hall has been Professor of Urban Planning and Urban Design at the Detmold School of Architecture and Interior Architecture (a specialist department of the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences) and on the Town Planning NRW Master’s programme.

DEEPLY ROOTED IN COLOGNE – SINCE 2002 IN MARIA-HILF-STRASSE

ASTOC settles into a former industrial loft in the Maria-Hilf-Strasse of Cologne’s Südstadt – which remains to this day our constantly expanding headquarters. In 2008 the office already employed 30 architects and urban planners.

NEW STRUCTURES IN 2014

The circle of managing directors is expanded to include Ingo Kanehl, Andreas Kühn and Jörg Ziolkowski. The new partners were already long-term employees of the firm and now manage the office together with Peter Berner, Markus Neppl and Oliver Hall.

Switzerland’s largest BIM project, the new BB12 building for Bern’s University Hospital, led to the opening of our Bern project office in 2014, from which emerged today’s Archipel Generalplanungs-AG.

Our 25-year anniversary is celebrated in style in 2016 together with our business partners, friends and long-term advisors.
