Won! "Vier Römer" neighbourhood with 300 residential units in Rheinfelden
ASTOC ARCHITECTS AND PLANNERS win together with AG Freiraum Landschaftsarchitektur
A total of ten architectural firms took part in the urban planning realisation competition for the "Römern" development area in Herten. There, the city wants to develop a residential area with an expected 300 flats on around 5.5 hectares. In a team with AG Freiraum Landschaftsarchitektur, we won the competition with our entry "Vier Römer".
Our design approach of the four Romans is characterised by the clearly defined relationship between the city and the (cultural) landscape. The existing settlement structure is extended in four strands and given a striking conclusion. They interlock the city with the landscape and thus create an atmosphere of living in and with the cultural landscape. We reinforce this basic motif with the productive landscape that flows into it, intersecting with a climate and biodiversity band along the existing course of the stream to form a central landscape site.
The competition entries were presented to the public on 22 June 2024 and can be seen in the town hall from 25 June to 8 July
