Won! Milestone Federal Quarter, Bonn
1st prize for ASTOC Architects and Planners in cooperation with GROW Landscape Architecture
ASTOC Architects and Planners have won the architectural competition for the construction of a new high-rise building in Bonn's Federal Quarter. On April 28, 2023, the jury voted unanimously in favor of ASTOC's competition entry.
The non-open, two-phase, structural engineering competition with an urban planning ideas section was organized by Kreer Development GmbH in order to find the best solution for the upcoming construction task on its own property. It is located in the area of the framework plan Bundesviertel (Federal Quarter) adopted by the politicians in 2020, which envisages a landmark here as well as an urban square with a high quality of stay.
The chairwoman of Bonn's urban planning and design advisory board and the jury, Professor Eva-Maria Pape, praised the design for its "concise, aesthetic architecture, combined with excellent floor plans and an open space concept that will permanently strengthen the diversity and attractiveness of the Bundesviertel not only as a place to work but also as a place to stay for the people of Bonn:innen." City Planning Officer Helmut Wiesner emphasizes that the greater mix of people in the Bundesviertel, which was anchored as a goal in the ratification of the framework plan, is being achieved with this milestone "because the designers credibly demonstrated in the competition that the building can be converted to residential use in its second life cycle. The authors have also planned a green plaza with gastronomy and other public uses." This is in the spirit of forward-looking urban planning to ease the housing market and revitalize the Federal District, they said.
