Topping-out ceremony for 357 apartments in Karlsruhe

Topping-out ceremonies are an important ritual in construction, celebrated in good tradition in the presence of the client, the craftsmen involved, contractors and planners. They take place as soon as the building shell is finished and the interior work can start.

This was also the case on November 22, 2022 in Karlsruhe-Daxlanden. Everyone came together to celebrate the important milestone for the construction of a modern and sustainable residential quarter on the 3.5 hectare August-Klingler-Areal.

Karlsruher Volkswohnung GmbH is building a total of seven buildings with five to eight stories there. By fall 2024, 357 apartments will be built, 302 of which will be rental apartments, again 60% of which will be publicly subsidized. In addition to the 26,300 square meters of living space for up to 900 people, an additional 1,900 square meters of space will be available for a daycare center, a daycare center for children, commercial space, restaurants and a service office. In addition, a listed former clubhouse located on the site will be preserved and refurbished.

ASTOC ARCHITECTS AND PLANNERS have been accompanying the project from the beginning. First, in 2015, we were tasked with updating the urban development concept, which resulted in a development plan. In parallel, we were commissioned by Volkswohnung GmbH with the planning services for the building construction.
