Site visit: August-Klingler-Areal, Karlsruhe-Daxlanden
When visiting the construction site from the air, it presents itself well, the urban figure of the 3.5 hectare August-Klingler-Areal in Karlsruhe-Daxlanden.
Karlsruher Volkswohnung GmbH is building a total of seven buildings with five to eight stories there. By fall 2024, 357 apartments will be built, 302 of which will be rental apartments, again 60% of which will be publicly subsidized. In addition to the 26,300 square meters of living space for up to 900 people, an additional 1,900 square meters of space will be available for a daycare center, a daycare center for children, commercial space, restaurants and a service office. In addition, a landmarked former clubhouse located on the site will be preserved and renovated.
ASTOC ARCHITECTS AND PLANNERS have been involved in the project from the beginning. Initially, in 2015, we were tasked with updating the urban development concept, which resulted in a development plan. In parallel, we were commissioned by Volkswohnung GmbH with the planning services for the building construction.
