Final spurt: Final event of the competition for the Max Becker site in Cologne-Ehrenfeld on 26.09.2022
A new urban quarter for around 4,000 residents and approximately 4,000 new jobs is to be built in Cologne-Ehrenfeld. The development of the approximately 17-hectare Max Becker site north of Widdersdorfer Strasse is currently the subject of a two-stage urban planning and open space planning competition.
At the end of March 2022, 15 planning teams started the first phase of the competition. After an interim public presentation in June and online public participation, 5 teams entered the second phase. On 26 September 2022, the planning teams will present their competition entries at a final public event. Digital public participation will also run until 7 October 2022. All entries can be viewed and commented on online. The ideas and feedback submitted in this way will be presented to the jury at its meeting on 18 October 2022.
The joint entry by ASTOC ARCHITECTS AND PLANNERS and Club L94 Landscape Architects creates the heart of the new quarter with the central park. All social and public infrastructures, such as day-care centres and the primary school, but also areas for cafés, kiosk, market hall and cultural pavilion are arranged around this park "Em Ihrefeld" and thus set the stage for a lively coexistence.
