Excellent! Reorganization Schildacker in Freiburg/Breisgau
The reorganization of the Schildacker settlement in the Haslach district of Freiburg received the "Exemplary Building Freiburg 2014-2022" award from the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects.
In the 1950s, many so-called ECA settlements were built with funds from the Marshall Plan, including the Schildacker settlement. Since the existing buildings were in a poor structural condition and did not meet contemporary standards in terms of comfort or energy consumption, and renovation was not profitable, in 2013 ASTOC ARCHITECTS AND PLANNERS was commissioned by Freiburger Wohnbau to redesign the area in terms of urban development, followed by new construction in 3 phases. This resulted in 306 rental apartments, more than twice as many as before, with three times the living space and a share of publicly subsidized apartments of 80 percent.
